Day In The Life Of A Hospital Marketing Director

My Day to Day

There's no typical day for me. Today, for example, I led a camera crew around the hospital as they filmed a virtual tour. As the marketing director, I'm also in charge of PR, so I work chamber events. I'm also part of any type of community events that go on. I lead a meeting for all of the directors in the morning. I spend time posting social media and updating our website. I also work on bigger projects, like our employee engagement survey and community health needs assessment.

Skills & Education

Here's the path I took:

  • High School

  • Associate's Degree

    Business Marketing Technology

    Texas State Technical College

  • Bachelor's Degree

    Digital Marketing

    University of Texas at Austin

Life & Career Milestones

I've taken a lot of twists and turns

  • 1.

I grew up in the California Central Valley and moved to Texas in my 20s.

  • 2.

After moving to Texas, I started working for Blue Cross Blue Shield as a claims examiner and a customer service representative.

  • 3.

I spent five years with Blue Cross Blue Shield—during which I got married, started a family, and moved to Sweetwater, Texas—and then decided to look for a job closer to home in Sweetwater.

  • 4.

I found a job working for Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital as an office clerk.

  • 5.

My job with the hospital wasn’t paying enough, so I left and got a job working for the post office—I liked working outside but doing so in the extreme West Texas weather wasn’t sustainable.

  • 6.

After six years with the post office, I went back to work for Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital as a human resources assistant—the switch allowed me to have more time for my family.

  • 7.

I went back to school and earned my associate degree in business marketing technology from Texas State Technical College.

  • 8.

I was then promoted to marketing director for Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital as well as executive director for the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital Foundation.

  • Balancing family, school, and work has been a struggle but learning how to prioritize has been very helpful. I always prioritize my family first. When I was in school, that would come second. Making everything equal priority will never work.
