Milestones

My road in life took a while to figure out.
Left home to go to college.
Majored in film and literature, because I didn't know what else to do.
Graduated, and got a job at Disneyland. Which was fun, but stopped being fulfilling.
Left Disneyland, and began working for Roadtrip Nation. Went on a 7000 mile road trip that changed me.
Decided to live abroad in China, and teach English for Disney.
Left China, to go to Graduate School at UCLA for a Master's in Education.
Got a job as a TA at Larchmont Charter School while I finished my Master's Inquiry.
Graduated with an M.Ed. and was hired as a 5th grade teacher at Larchmont.

Day to Day

A typical day at work is never ending when you are a teacher. Work is there when you wake up, and I am typically working until bed. But it's hard work, with a purpose. As a teacher you play the role of entertainer, parent, nurse, psychologist, counselor, caretaker, educator, storyteller, actor, disciplinarian, and leader. You wear this hat every single day, in the hopes to make an impact on your student's futures.

Advice for Getting Started

The Noise I Shed

From Society in General:

"I've had a lot of good support. But I've definitely felt the societal pressures of settling down, making money, and being responsible. I also heard a few friends tell me I wouldn't make a good Elementary school teacher, but I never was told why. Earlier in my life, I was told to be a teacher immediately. But I wasn't ready, I wanted to explore in my 20s. And I am really glad I did."
