Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Society in general:

There was plenty of competition in network television, and public broadcasting. I was starting at a time when there weren't many female executives in leadership roles yet I was fortunate to work for very supportive bosses—male and female.

  • How I responded:

I was fortunate to have many cheerleaders around me, especially my husband. Whatever the outside world threw my way, I had the good fortune of going home to a place where I was supported and was able to start all over the next day. If there was criticism, I just didn't pay much attention to it. My advice is to find people who are your cheerleaders. Design your safety net of people you can rely upon. Cultivate the people who believe in you. Find friends and mentors that provide that security.
