Life & Career Milestones

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

Graduated from college with no idea what to do with my life!

  • 2.

Got accepted to teach English in France for a year, which was an awesome experience.

  • 3.

Came home from France with no idea what to do with my life (again!).

  • 4.

Found a job working at a small local language school, where I handled almost everything - speaking with students, marketing, even some teaching.

  • 5.

Decided to go to grad school and ended up in New York City at Columbia.

  • 6.

Needed a job while in grad school and happened to find one at a local college in Career Services.

  • 7.

A job in study abroad opened up at the same college, I applied and got the position!

  • 8.

After a few years at my old school, I felt like I was ready for a new title and more responsibilities. I found a great new position that I love!

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Friends:

You'd make SO much more money if you worked in the private sector and not in education!

  • How I responded:

It might be true that education doesn't pay as much as some other industries, but I'm still able to support myself and I enjoy having a fulfilling job. I get to help students have life-changing experiences and gain a new understanding of the world and their place in it. Feeling like I'm making a difference in the world is something I value that much more than having a higher salary!
