Life & Career Milestones

I've taken a lot of twists and turns

  • 1.

Biology Degree (with no idea what to do with it), so I immediately go back to school for Education courses

  • 2.

Teach science until my first child is born, then work at church as the youth and facility director

  • 3.

After a couple of years, go back to teaching....this time technology, but eventually leave the classroom for a district tech job

  • 4.

Go back to the science classroom (on short notice after late-August teacher resignation)

  • 5.

Move to a business tech teaching position because STAAR EOC chem & physics makes teaching science no fun (yes, we used to give state standardized tests in chem & physics!)

  • 6.

Follow my family to a new district and a new job in College & Career Readiness

  • 7.

    ....who knows?......

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Society in general:

Good kids go straight to college after high school!

  • How I responded:

So I did....and I had a hard time deciding what I should do for a career, so I ended up changing my major five times and getting two unrelated degrees. Over the last 30 years of school & work, I have learned: Find your own path! What makes you happy? What are you good at? Find out what it takes to be what you want to be and follow that path. Explore! Take some other paths along the way and explore all ways to arrive at your happy place.
