Life & Career Milestones

I've taken a lot of twists and turns

  • 1.

My first goal was to leave my small town, move to Los Angeles and go to a fashion college - goal to work in fashion with advertising or public relations.

  • 2.

After receiving my first degree, I went into advertising/PR. I loved it, but at the time, too selfish to give my full commitment.

  • 3.

Decided to go back to school after working in a preschool.

  • 4.

Received an AA Degree in Childhood Development to teach preschool, but decided I wanted to teach older students.

  • 5.

Went back to school to obtain my bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies.

  • 6.

Worked as and English teacher for 15 years, then switched to our school's Community Liaison and Business teacher (PR comes back full circle), while helping seniors with their college applications.

  • 7.

Went back to school to obtain my master's degree in Educational Leadership, as suggested by my principal. Found I still enjoyed working with students. Principalship on hold...for now.

  • 8.

Currently working as the College and Career Specialist at our local high school.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Family:

You should stay in your hometown - why go off to college when there is a perfectly good college here?

  • How I responded:

GO and see the world! Take the leap - you can always go "home" if things do not work out.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • I decided to take the leap and follow my dreams, no matter the cost. I didn't have a counselor to guide me in my path and this is why I have become so passionate about helping others follow their dreams - but without the cost - if at all possible.
