Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Family:

Having a child at this age will ruin your life.

  • How I responded:

I never silenced the "noise". Every time I wanted to give up or thought I couldn't do something, I used the "noise" as a way to propel myself past my doubt and fears. I continue to believe in myself when others didn't.

  • I was a single mom at 19 years old with a desire to go to college working in a financial industry. I went to a college advisor and took financial literacy courses to help. I learned how to manage my money and what resources were available to me. I made a lot of sacrifices because my education was very important to me.
