Milestones

My road in life has been direct.
I grew up loving music and playing in bands—I was the drum major in high school.
Even though I loved music and had experience directing a band, I didn’t plan on becoming a music teacher—it wasn’t until my fourth year of college that I changed my major to music.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in music, followed by a master’s degree in arts and teaching.
I began my teaching journey in Detroit, inspired by my love for music and a desire to make an impact.
I expanded my teaching experience to both Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee, where I continued to work as a middle school band teacher.
I eventually moved to Colorado and am currently teaching middle school band in Aurora.
In 2023, I was recognized as the Colorado Teacher of the Year, marking a high point in my dedication to education.
So far, I’ve gained 14 years of experience teaching middle school band, embracing the unique challenges and joys of this age group.

Day to Day

My days are spent teaching middle school students how to play instruments from flute to percussion. Through teaching instrumental music, I’m also teaching life skills—like collaboration, cooperation, work ethic and leadership—that will help my students be successful not only in my class, but outside of my class as well.
