Milestones

My road in life has been direct.
In college, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do—I switched my major five times before deciding on business.
I ended up graduating with a degree in human resources management and business management.
I graduated during the recession and couldn’t find a human resources job, so I took a customer service role at an appraisal management company.
I worked my way up for a while and then got the opportunity to join a staffing firm—I worked at the firm for about a year before I was unfortunately laid off.
I was out of work for a few months and then got an offer to join OneAmerica as a talent acquisition consultant.
I fell in love with recruiting and decided that this is what I’m meant to be doing.
Since being hired with OneAmerica, I’ve worked my way up to talent acquisition manager.

Day to Day

Each day is different, which is what makes it interesting and challenging. Each day I could be meeting with leaders to discuss their current or future openings, having conversations with candidates based on their experience and their compensation requirements, sourcing candidates on social media platforms, attending meetings with third party vendors, or attending career and internship fairs throughout the city or at universities.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for high school students

Utilize the resources you have at school to help you navigate potential paths. If you have an idea of your interests, talk to your counselors and ask them what educational and career paths could match those interests.
