Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
Teaching is often regarded as a career for those who don't know how to use their degree; this is definitely NOT true. Teaching is for those who have passion for their subject and enjoy helping others overcome challenges and find motivation.
How I responded:
If you are creative and think well on your feet, teaching is the career for you. You can use your classroom as a place to explore what interests you while also helping students broaden their minds. The best things happen in the classroom when the teacher is invested and involves their own passions, and in order to be a good teacher you cannot sit back and be complacent. It's not easy, but it can be extremely rewarding!
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I come from a low-income background and I was often encouraged to pursue a career based on financial appeal. After ignoring this advice and becoming a teacher, I definitely recommend following your passion; you will be much happier!
When faced with a cancer diagnosis at the age of 19, I had to re-evaluate the path I had chosen for my life. I realized that while income is important, so is having a career that you truly look forward to being involved in every day.
