I've taken a lot of twists and turns
1.
Finished high school and went to business school because it was the "right" next step.
2.
Got an internship at a law firm, realized the 9-5 cubicle is NOT for me and started my first company at 19
3.
I graduated university and kept doing digital strategy at my company. I started traveling with a 4 month trip to Europe where I realized that travel is absolutely critical for me to learn and grow
4.
While living in Brazil in 2016 I learned how to speak Portuguese. I realized that when you decide you're going to do something that's the first step to making it happen.
5.
I founded Kickstart Your Work, and learned that I couldn't help everyone and needed to focus on building a tribe of people that I could support and connected with so I chose women and the work niche.
6.
Finding a professional community who supports my coaching business and my big dreams was another pivotal shift for me in my work. Knowing that I had a tribe that believed in me changed my life.
7.
Learning to accept support and hiring team members has been a huge shift in the way I work. I put a lot of pressure on myself to do it all, but big dreams require big support.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
You can't love the work you do and have fun. What you want to do isn't realistic, practical and can't make you any money. You will never be able to make a living on this type of work. You can't run a business effectively and don't have enough experience.
How I responded:
I still hear this all time time from family, friends, random people, romantic interests, peers and society in general and how I've dealt with it is to continue to tell myself I know what I'm here to do and what I love. I've also found communities (professional and social) as well as friends who support my vision and big goals. Taking a look at the 5 people I spend the most of my time with, and being very real about how they make is feel has totally changed how I feel about what I do.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
The challenges for me here were pressure to get good grades rather than focusing on applicability of the skills I was learning in every day life. There was a lot of overcoming perfectionism and fear of failure. I'm good enough now with what I know
