My road in life has taken me all over.
Graduated from College with a business degree, worked in that area.
Used accounting degree plus art working in two areas - accounting and retail (gift store)
Retail stores plus owned Interior design company.
Returned to college to complete teacher certification while working my company and store. Only took 1 year.
Hired as Reading and Art Teacher at Middle School while still owning / working Interior design business.
Returned to college for Masters in Counseling to become a counselor. Became Middle School Counselor. Sold my business.
Completed Principalship certification. Became High School Counselor.
Raised 3 children during the process.

Day to Day

Usually, my day begins at 7 am at school to work on tasks that range from academic counseling, grades, student schedules, dual credit, credit recovery, master schedule, Grad plans, testing of all kinds, contacting students or parents, CTE tasks, enrolling new students, visiting with teachers / staff / administrators, checking on students, and more.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for everyone

To become a counselor in public education, I would recommend visiting several school districts of all sizes to see just what all counselors do throughout the day, week, month, and year. If still interested in counseling, be a classroom teacher to become familiar with the education process.
