My road in life took a while to figure out.
Won writing awards in high school.
Participated in a LOT of extracurricular high school and college activities to determine field.
Had a variety of internships in college and pushed self to try different journalism-related jobs.
Studied and interned overseas to experience something very different.
Changed positions several times and moved cross-country two times with my second job.
Left second job after thirteen years to learn something new and have since worked for two different companies.

Day to Day

A great day would be many successes in solving company issues, developing messaging that resonates with internal partners and helping colleagues look at their PR marketing campaigns from a different perspective. My job involves a lot of writing in terms of helping various internal teams with their messaging, primarily messaging intended for our customers or regarding our products and services.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for high school students

Focus on English and writing classes and extracurricular activities (such as school newspaper, radio, TV broadcasting, blogging, etc.) to ensure you enjoy writing and the type of work involved with PR and journalism.
