Day to Day

First my thoughts, then the drawings, using no patterns. I create one of a kind wearable art clothing. I make only one of each item - just like a painting, no duplicates. The fabric inspires me/communicates to me....... I even carve out my own stamp to add design to these textiles- I often use carved woodblock stamps from india carved by other artists - special textile paint is used.

Skills & Qualities Beyond School

I learned nothing in school, it was an utter waste of time when it comes to what I do.... All self taught. I dye my own textiles using roots/berries/spices- I know a lot about plants because I am a naturopath/herbalist. Print work on textiles are also done by me by hand- I have been an artist/painter my entire life. The patterns are all in my head - via draping on a dummy. Many make no sense to anyone but myself. I started from the age of 4, trial and error using curtains/bedsheets in the beginning because I was too poor to buy fabric.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for high school students

To be creative and self-guided. Have a passion for thinking outside of the box.
