Milestones

My road in life took a while to figure out.
I discovered computer programming in SCROC right when it was a good career (in the early 80's).
I wrote a property management software program which required me to understand it to program it.
I began running the Property Management company I wrote the software for.
I purchased a house, then a 2nd house and rented out my 1st house.
I studied for and got my real estate brokers license.
I opened my own property management company.
I invested in more real estate properties.
I hired my son to work with me and we look to expand the business even further.
Keep following my journey

Day to Day

Today I usually answer about 50 emails, speak with clients on the phone and make decisions of what rent rates should be, negotiate vendor contracts, oversee work performed and work on getting new clients. It keeps me busy and is fun work!

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for high school students

Figure out what excites you...if you are going to be working 8 hours a day then it is a lot easier if the work you do is fun & challenging! I am self-employed now and if you have an idea and can get it off the ground then I say do it! Otherwise you'll need to start somewhere. The advantage of working for somebody is if you find it is not something you like to do then you can always find another job but I recommend you put enough thought into it so you hopefully get it right the first time!

Recommended Education

My career is not related to what I studied. I'd recommend this path instead:
