I feel so much satisfaction from people just having an understanding of themselves beyond what people around them have assigned to them.

Milestones

My road in life took a while to figure out.
I lived in China until I was ten years old and then moved to Chicago, Illinois.
I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I studied international studies, French, and business.
After graduating, I started my career as a teacher with Teach For America—I was placed at a Title I school in Phoenix, Arizona.
I went back to school to earn a certificate in elementary education and teaching from Rio Salado College while continuing to work as an elementary school teacher.
I spent four years teaching but ultimately decided that it wasn’t the right fit for my personality, so I moved back to Chicago to work in sales and marketing for a couple of tech start-ups.
I pivoted again to work in fundraising for a nonprofit.
Throughout my journey, I had been coaching my girlfriends as a hobby and I finally decided to turn that hobby into a business.
I created Moonrise Purpose Coaching, through which I help women make a mid-career pivot and find work that fulfills them.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for everyone

Just try things out. There is no better way to learn than by actually doing something. Pay attention to what gives you energy and what drains you. Then, when you take the next step or the next job, know that it doesn't have to be the perfect role. As long as it incorporates some of the aspects that give you energy, it's a good step.
